Doctor Who Series 6

Post by Darkwing on 2011-04-27, 02:23

Warning, this is a spoiler thread so beware reading.

First up, Steven Moffat is a genius IMO. I'm beginning to think he's had everything planned since he first started writing Razz

And anyways, now for my guess:

Spoiler:
Amy's daughter is the Astronaut, but she is also River Song, River kills the Doctor thus why she's in prison. Thoughts?

I must say, I really like the direction this is going though, the Doctor's life in his companions hands, it's a pretty interesting twist for Doctor Who cause for once, he's the one out of the loop. And I always love when they play with those intersecting timelines and whatnot, again aiding to my suspicion that Moffat is a genius.

WHOA! I think you are a master at making predictions. You could be totally right.
Not sure about the connection to River Song and Amys daughter but i think the two half's could be correct.

The only thing that I thought of that could get in the way, is that when the Doctor is killed, River is truly taken aback, like she didn't see it coming, so either he's not supposed to die then or he is but it's not her doing

I was really hoping Matt Smith, would be getting replaced ( I dunno why I just hate Matt Smith,as the Doctor.)... but they kill the Doctor instead, while he's still Smith, I was kinda pissed about that, But the Plot for the Episode is ....Different and interesting.

he signed for a minimum of 3 seasons, with an optional 2 after that, should he choose to do so. Then he may or may not be re contracted.

Also, they wont kill the doctor. This could be a similar trick that DC Comics used in 1993 to drive up the sales of superman. They killed him off. But he came back, permanent death always leads to the end of a series (its a classy way to do it) and Dr. Who is not suffering from low ratings and has no reason to shut down. I do wonder however if this will be the basis for the whole season.

Re: Doctor Who Series 6

I think so but there's something else I've been wondering. Ever since Series 1, there's been definite signs (especially with Moffat's episodes and arcs) that make me think they are actually looking for an ultimate end to Doctor Who. Not necessarily because they want one or because of money, but because it's one of those real questions. How do you end Doctor Who? He only has 1 more regeneration and what next, some writing loophole to keep the series going indefinitely? Personally (it'll take years of course) I think they are looking to find a way to actually end Doctor Who and that's perhaps that's been one of the primary goals since the get-go.

Yeah, I can totally see that. They NEED a way to end the show. But you must remember that there is one time lord "The Master" lived past his 12th regeneration. It has been suggested since early on in the series that there are ways of circumventing the rule.

Re: Doctor Who Series 6

There are, but does it fit who the Doctor is? The Master used methods that were less then preferable to stay alive and I don't think the Doctor would do that. I mean he knows he's going to die and in some way wants to. I mean he's old, lonely and tired really, he's tired of seeing everyone he cares about wither away while he keeps on living. but the really interesting thing, is when Canton comes he nods cause he knows its time and he knows he's going to die and then he nods to the astronaut I'm pretty sure. Like he goes down to be killed because he knows it's going to happen. Big question is why. What happened in 200 years that made him prepared to die?

I haven't watched any of this series, or much out of the last one, so I'm out of the loop. But why can't they just ignore that little detail, and have him go ad infinitum? There's far more people who'd rather watch the programme than those who'd want it to be ended because of a rule made up 40 years ago when the producers thought they'd reach such a number.

But that's the question. Is that what they're going to do or what? How will Doctor Who actually end or will it end? I mean 40+ years is a very good run for a TV show after all so ending it wouldn't be the end of the world. Mind you I love Doctor Who and don't personally want it to end, but I'm curious to see what would happen when the day comes that the 12th Doctor wants out Razz

It's Impossible to kill a Time Lord (Traveller), the dead doctor said he was around 1200 years old, in that time he could of visited thousands of different places, So you'd need to spend 10,000s of years killing him in all the time lines he went to. Then the Non-Dead Doctor being 900 & something old, well that would take so long there's just no point in trying to kill a Time Lord.

Which is what we get into in the Impossible Astronaut, however in terms of television, I highly doubt David Tennant or any of the others would come back just to continue the series even if number 12 completely dies.

And it isn't impossible to kill a time lord. 100 years to a time lord is 100 years to us, his 100 just happens in a different order. You just need to meet up with him and kill him. Also in the past the master was offered additional regenerations by the high council to save the doctor from the death zone. (check: Death zone, may not be the right name). This gives rise to the idea of additional regens. However, all the time lords are dead, but it is unclear weather or not there is a way to enter the time locked time war and contact the time lords again.

Yeah, the question really is what stops them from regenerating after number 12? Is it biological? Is it a matter of ethics because they do seem to have a choice in the matter (the Master wouldn't regenerate when he was shot) maybe it's a matter of sanity, you know living forever would probably drive one mad really.

its a biological thing well sort of its possible for any time lord to go over 12 its just not exactly a good idea because the body cant cope with many more than 12 in the same way its a bad idea for a child to regenerate. so its more a matter of how the technology works (they were not originally born like that)

Hello, there. Sorry for the unexpected drop out of hammerspace and for the partial off-topicness of my reply, but there's something in this topic that's really buggin' me:

Each Timelord is entitled to twelve regenerations, which means that there will be 13 and not 12 doctors.
The First Doctor did not regenerate into existance, he was (as all modern Timelords since the Pythia's curse are) loomed. That means that the First Doctor is the Zeroth Regeneration, the Second Dr. is the first, and so on, and the twelvth regeneration will be the thirteenth doctor.

Oh, sorry. But what I said still applies. Gallifreyans (even non-time-lords) were all loomed, and granted twelve regeneration cycles. The eleventh doctor has undergone ten complete regeneration cycles, which means there are two more.

However, on the Sarah Jane Adventures (RIP Elisabeth Sladen, BTW) episode Death of the Doctor, the eleventh Doctor says that he can regenerate 507 times, although it was probably not true...

The really important thing ATM is either there's another Time Lord floating around out there, or someone cracked the code to regenerations. I mean we still have no clue what the Silence's plans are or why they needed the girl. And maybe an even more important question is, why was she dying? What happens in those 6 months? And why do we have to have a detour???!?! Though I am looking forward to the pirate episode Very Happy

I was listening to some music tonight and then had this idea that would just be the coolest thing ever to do in Doctor Who. Basically, I think they should travel to 1938 and meet Benny Goodman and have the legendary Carnegie Hall concert involved in it. Yeah, just yeah, that would be cool Smile

Yeah, they took JJ Abrams multiverse idea to a whole new level with that one...

Well, yes and no. See in Dr Who, the "prime" universe was essentially wiped out/erased and replaced by a new timeline. So, what about the other realities? What about the one Rose is trapped in? Time isn't limited to a single reality, so if all of time exploded, then does that mean there is only one reality now? Whereas with Abrams, his was based on if someone does time travel, they create a splinter reality, another universe, the other one continues, but alongside the new one at the point of disturbance

Ok so I just had a crazy idea. What if Gallifrey now exists? I mean think about this, the Doctor was erased from history, meaning everything he had done didn't happen, at least as far as I gather. So if this is the case, maybe Gallifrey was never put under the time lock or whatever?

Probably my favorite episode. It makes me wonder how much moffet will did into the old episodes (pre 2005). Quite a number of connections in this episode.
